Lent — day eighteen

Communion is our charge. To look each soul in the eyes, and to call to them with the very flesh of God –  his gift to each fiber of that soul – this is my body, this is my blood, to you, for you. To call all hands open, to take. And to know that as we take, the gift floods even to our restless feet, and reminds them that they rest on sacred ground. These are the gifts of God for the people of God – this water, this wine, the works of our hands, his body, his blood, kneaded and scorched and torn, for you. And you. and you. and you. and you.
