Lent — day twenty–nine

We woke to white
feet of it, piled.
How could we ever
take in all of that gift?
We gulped, tried,
just couldn’t quite,
and sun-gray-skies
came to help our plight.
We know it is a gift.
We are not ungrateful –
don’t take it back.
Still, we soaked up reprieve,
the grass poked up
no longer choked by white.
I’m sorry we couldn’t
take it in.
Then you covered us,
you came to us and
tucked us in,
a mother, bound to take us.
